Our finished lion will be displayed on the streets of Harlow alongside other schools and community groups — and we’re determined to make ours the best!

Students will be collaborating to create a bold design that reflects our school values and identity, while also helping to raise funds for this fantastic local charity.

In October, our lion will return to Passmores for his permanent home in school — a lasting reminder of our students’ creativity and community spirit.

They sold coffee cups for just 50p, each filled with a lovely message and a free hot drink voucher — a small treat for a truly great cause!

Most Muslims fast between dawn and sunset. Fasting allows Muslims to devote themselves to their faith. It is thought to teach self-discipline and reminds them of the suffering of the poor.

The visit gave students valuable inspiration and insight to support their exam work.

This week, our Year 11 students have been given their Year 11 Revision Strategies booklet to help them prepare for the exam season ahead. Packed with practical tips and guidance, it’s designed to support confident, effective revision.

After gathering their evidence, the Scholars moved on to the next task of the day – crafting a presentation based on their research to deliver to a panel – including Passmores Academy’s head teacher, Miss Christie. The Scholars had to ensure their presentation reflected their research depth, and showcased their creativity, innovation and the impact of their solution. Each group delivered their thorough and elaborate presentations confidently, which made deciding the winner a challenge for the panel! It was clear how hard the cohort had worked all day and their extreme effort was embodied into their final presentations After much deliberation, our winning group was Janelle, Scarlett, Tilly, Erin and Alice who presented pragmatic ideas about the ethical considerations required if we further embedded AI into society! Some notable mentions solving world hunger using bugs and their nutritional value and low cost, as well as using a German school as pioneers for how to implement zero-waste culture into schools! 

I am so incredibly proud of every single one of my Scholars students, they worked extremely hard and their efforts were evident throughout the entire day. It was a pleasure to deliver this workshop to our Year 7 and 8 Scholars!

Over the past couple of months, pupils in the Hub have been working on enterprise projects during tutor time. These activities were designed to help practice important social skills and life skills. We have focused on areas such as profit, communication, creativity, and confidence.

The pupils have shown tremendous effort and dedication, and their hard work has resulted in raising £160 for No Child Without.

Well done to everyone involved!

It was a truly fantastic evening and a wonderful way to celebrate the festive season!

Once we were all in the (exclusively booked) auditorium, pupils settled in and enjoyed the show. There were plenty of boos, hisses and ‘he’s behind you’ shout outs and it was lovely to be able to sit and watch an entire theatre of children have a fabulous afternoon. Year 8 students in particular, were able to identify traditional pantomime features as this trip dovetails with their classroom learning in drama at the moment.

Huge thanks go to Harlow Playhouse staff for their excellent support in managing the afternoon alongside us and helping everyone get in and out unscathed! The cast delivered an excellent show and from this teacher’s point of view, the moment that our school audience gasped in wonder at the show was absolutely worth the logistical nightmare of getting them there!

We hope you enjoy the remainder of the festive countdown and the naughty elves aren’t annoying you too much!

Harlow Playhouse never disappoints with their incredible pantos, and we can’t wait to share this fun-filled experience with our students.

Pupils will attend morning lessons as usual, then meet in the Sports Hall before walking to the Playhouse with staff. Please ensure pupils wear school uniform, comfortable shoes, and a coat for the walk.

I am always so pleased to see how well-received these events are – it’s also lovely for us to get the opportunity to see some familiar faces as well as lots of news ones.  These informal gatherings are so useful in allowing us to get a view of things from your perspective and help us with our plans and goals moving forward.

Year 7 and 8 will be receiving letters about this year’s Panto trip in the coming week or so, where we head over to Harlow Playhouse for the afternoon to see Sleeping Beauty. Keep your eyes peeled on Arbor for the letter and be sure to secure your place early. It’s always a wonderful afternoon and sets the tone for the run up to Christmas at school beautifully.

On Monday 6th October, everyone was very excited to welcome Jon Lewis, a professional glass artist with work exhibited at the V&A and Somerset House, who delivered a workshop and Q&A session for our Year 11 students from 3:45pm to 5:30pm. Jon spoke about his creative process, answered student questions, and showcased some of his stunning glassblowing pieces.

This week we were lucky enough to take a number of our drama learners in Years 9, 10 & 11 to Harlow Playhouse to watch Shakers (Jane Thornton) and Bouncers (John Godber). Both plays were being presented in Theatre 2 (upstairs) by Harlow Amateur Dramatic Society (HATS). One of the plays even featured our very own Mr Paddon, taking a step away from his usual daytime role of maths teacher!

Shakers kicked the evening off, a tale of four waitresses working in a cocktail bistro bar in the 80s - the era of the yuppie, perms and brightly coloured eyeshadow. The four female actors did Jane Thornton proud with their multi-role, drawing on observations of others to create a plethora of different characters that we see frequent the bar. This was followed by Bouncers, and the excellent cast of 4 males (including Mr Paddon) did a smashing job of creating scenes both inside and outside the nightclub that employs them, from punks to posh boys to a drunk girls’ night out. It was fast paced and amusing and our learners thoroughly enjoyed the ride! Pupils asked thoughtful and probing questions in the cast Q&A following the show; it was a real treat to see them consider the task the actors faced as they began their work with a show filled with so many different characters and there was a lovely sense of learning and respect for the job done by all involved in the performances. Passmores was, once again, excellently represented in our local community and our pupils were able to access some of the wonderful entertainment and arts culture we have here in Harlow.

We’ll be back with an article on our next trip to see Punch at The Apollo Theatre in London next Thursday, with our Year 10s and 11s. A reminder that this is a mandatory trip for all GCSE students as they prepare for mock exams and develop their theatre evaluation skills.
