My name is Carolyn Richards and I am Deputy Head of House for Unicorn and currently acting Head of House. I joined the school in July 2008 and in the eight years of working here I have involved myself fully in this fantastic House. I am passionate about Unicorn and, having supported our last Head of House in taking Unicorn through to victory, it is my time to step up to lead by example and retain the title for a second year. Yes Unicorns, that’s right we won ‘House of the year 2015-16’!
In our House, our motto has been “dream, believe, achieve" and this is what we strive to do every day in Unicorn House. Last year we proved that with hard work, dedication and working together as a team we can succeed.
My vision this year is that Unicorn becomes an inclusive house, so our new motto is “stronger, better, together”. Providing that we all continue to pull together, continue to work to the high standards we set and enter as many House competitions as possible, we can do it again.
We are the house to beat so I want every single member of Unicorn to play a role in us succeeding. Whether it’s taking part in a house competition, cheering on fellow peers on from the side-line at house sports events, or supporting each other pastorally, everyone in Unicorn can do their bit. Just by attending school every day you can contribute to our success. If we want every student to buy into our vision and get involved then we need to show them that we are too. We need to embed the spirit and vision of Unicorn now as a means to go on and we welcome you at home to support us with this as you are our honourable members of Unicorn! Sports Day is an important date in the school calendar and I want to see as many of you as possible volunteering to take part in events. We can definitely apply our new motto to this event next year and I look forward to celebrating our success and watching Unicorn students collect their medals.
Passmores is a great place to be and has so much to offer in terms of clubs, trips and support sessions, both in and out of the classroom. I encourage you to take full advantage of all the fantastic opportunities. Not only will you get more out of your time here and have some wonderful memories to look back on, but it’s also a chance to meet new people, develop new skills/talents, build on confidence and have fun.
