Passmores Celebrates World Book Day
Characters from ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Gangsta Granny’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘A Game of Thrones’, and many more fictional favourites were spotted at Passmores on Thursday, which can only mean one thing - it was World Book Day!
Staff surprised students by turning up dressed as their favourite book characters to celebrate books, authors, illustrators and above all, the enjoyment of reading. Students got involved in the fun by hunting out Willie Wonka style golden tickets which (appropriately) were hidden inside books, and challenged their literary knowledge by matching quotes displayed around school with the classic works of fiction they are from. Prizes and Passmores Points were up for grabs, and next week all those who were successful will be entered into a grand prize draw.
After an enjoyable and insightful day, English teacher Miss Edwards reported, ‘I've had so many great conversations with students about books and World Book Day!’
The celebration continues next week as students have the opportunity bring in a book of their own that they are willing to swap. The Big Book Swap will take place on Wednesday 8th March at break and lunchtime in U108.
Rounding off the week in the spirit of Hogwarts, Harry Potter fans can sign up to take part in a Quiddich tournament. Students who would like get involved should sign up at the PE department and can see Miss Edwards or Miss Silva with any questions. Tickets for spectators will be available to purchase for 50p, with all proceeds going to ‘No child Without’.
